The flu vaccine is available at Valewood Clinic in Mulgrave, at the start of every winter year on year, and throughout the colder months.

What is flu?

Flu is often more formally called Influenza.  It’s an easily transferrable infection that can spread swiftly through close contact within communities. As it is a viral disease, you cannot use antibiotics to treat it. The best way to contain it is through a vaccination.

Who are those most likely to be impacted by flu?

Whilst it can pose a threat to individuals of all ages, its impact is particularly severe on those more vulnerable in our community, for example:

  • Toddlers
  • Pregnant mothers
  • The Elderly; and

The Right Time to get the Flu Vaccine at our Mulgrave Clinic

New season flu vaccines are usually available at the start of April.  We provide a notification on our website when it is available in our medical clinic and bookings are open. You can call our clinic on (03) 9560 6655 and check with our team on the availability of the vaccine.

This vaccine will help protect you during the peak flu season, in general from June to September. The highest level of protection usually occurs 3 to 4 months following vaccination.

One flu vaccine per year is recommended for most people.

Possible side effects of the flu vaccine

Talk to our medical team about possible side effects you may have after the flu vaccine. These can include:

  • Feeling weak and/or tired
  • Pain and swelling around the injection site.
  • Muscle Aches

These may last 1 to 2 days, although most are only minor. Avoid using your arm in vigorous exercise or lifting heavy items for a few days, and allow the injection site to heal. Contact our Medical Clinic should you have any concerns regarding the length of time you are feeling unwell.
